INTRODUCTION
Michael Gomez was born in Edinburg, Texas, but is a life long resident of Houston. He is the son of migrant workers and a product of Headstart and HISD schools. Michael graduated from Reagan high school in 1993 where he served as student body president and editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper, the Reagan Statesman.
COLLEGE
Upon graduating from high school, Michael enrolled at Rice University. He graduated from Rice in 1997 where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and policy studies. While at Rice, Michael served as president of Hispanic Student Association (HACER), where he helped establish and participated in various student volunteer programs in Houston's East End.
At Rice, Michael participated in the original class of "Leadership Rice," an academic program focused solely on the study of leadership. As a result, he had the opportunity to shadow State Representative Ellen Cohen, during her tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the Houston Area Women’s Center, where he received an intensive education in domestic violence, rape and crisis intervention. During his time at Rice, Michael also had the opportunity to do a study tour of Israel and the West Bank where he studied the Palestinian and Israeli conflict and met with key officials in both governments.
LAW SCHOOL
After graduating from Rice, Michael attended the University of Houston Law Center. During his first year at the Law Center, Michael volunteered for a political asylum project (PROBAR) in Harlingen, Texas, where he was able to advocate on behalf of persecuted immigrants seeking asylum in the United States before immigration law judges. He also clerked for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund where he worked diligently on issues relating to voting rights, education, immigration and employment. At the end of his first year of law school, Michael joined the Houston Law Review, a prestigious legal journal, where he served as articles editor.
LEGAL PRACTICE
Michael graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 2000 and soon after became licensed to practice law in the state of Texas. After graduating from law school, Michael began his law practice with a large, national law firm where he specialized in corporate, franchise and securities law issues. In his practice, he represented both large multi-national companies and private equity groups in acquisitions and dispositions of business and assets, stock exchange matters, and corporate governance issues. In 2004, he joined a small local law firm where his diversified his practice to include commercial and insurance-defense litigation. In 2007, he established his own law firm where specializes a widerange of transactional and litigation matters.
PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE
Whether it's his involvement in organizations focused on improving the educational opportunities of our children, hosting numerous college forums and literacy drives, or raising scholarship monies for deserving students, Michael’s record of professional and community service—as a volunteer, a mentor and an advocate—spans well over a decade. During his tenure as President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston, Michael helped spearhead Houston's first ever Diversity Report Card. The report card, a collective effort of Houston's minority bar associations, examined the representation of minority attorneys at Houston's 21 largest law firms. Michael is also responsibile for helping raise tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships to deserving students at each of Houston's area law schools. As a probono legal advisor to various non-profit organizations in the Houston area, Michael has assisted numerous organizations in their efforts to serve the community. Michael is also a frequent speaker at local public schools encouraging students to pursue a higher education and to consider law as a profession.

Currently, I manage a solo practice.
